 Quality education is the foundation for creating sustainable development. Therefore and access to affordable, available and high-quality inclusive education is a high priority for us, in line with Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education. We will deliver an education system that equips our children with futureready skills and qualifications, from the primary to tertiary level. They can thus be globally competitive and develop innovations that will solve the problems of our State, Nation, and Humanity. We will provide our State and nation with a labour force that is fit for purpose through affordable quality educationacrossall levels.

The lack of quality teachers, inadequate and poor infrastructure and the dearth of educational aids and teaching materials are some of the problems the education sector still faces. On average, only 20% of Lagos State students have passed WAEC in the last two decades. There is also a wide gap in infrastructure between the private and public schoolsin Lagos.

To foster access to quality education in the State, we will:

  • Promote access to high quality education and encourage enrolment of all eligible children, ensuring that there is free basic education;
  • Improve access and the quality of programmesin vocational and technical schools;
  • Foster private sector partnerships to provide opportunities to graduates of vocational and technical schools;

For higher quality of education, we will:

▪ Review and revise the dated school curriculum so as to effectively prepare the youthfor the future;

▪ Prioritize the use of ICT as a major platform for learning which means provision of adequate infrastructure such as Computers, internet access etc. to public schools.

▪ Review standards and processes for monitoring performance and achievements in schools at all levels.

❖Establish a reporting and feedback mechanism so that schools can take appropriate remedial action, based on the reports of inspectors.

▪ Partner with the private sector and interest groups to deliver and ensure quality education via Charter Schools, Contract Schools, Academy Schools, Voluntary-Aided Schools.

▪ Ensure urgent attention is paid to the cost efficient renovation of classrooms, furniture, laboratories and other infrastructure.

▪ Ensure high quality teachers and the professionalization of teaching in our schools through training, encouragement of certification, instituting a programme of continuous professional development and reviewing the remuneration of teachers.

▪ Upgrade, renovate and properly equip special needs schools.

▪ Upgrade the State College of Education by improving existing facilities and pursuing affiliation with the Lagos State University (LASU) for appropriate degrees and certification.

▪ Conversion of colleges of education - affiliate the State colleges of education with LASU so they can prepare candidates for LASU degrees.

To lower the burden of education cost on students in tertiary institutions:

▪ Bursaries and scholarships will be encouraged and provided to Lagos State students in tertiary institutionsaround the country;

▪ We will pursue collaboration with private sector organisations to offer more educational scholarships,especiallyat LASU and other State-ownedtertiary institutions.
