Manifesto

: 0.00

With the advent of civilian government in 1999, the focus of governance shifted from a command economy model to a more inclusive and socially oriented approach built around:

  • IGR enhancement
  • Infrastructure development
  • Social investment and enterprise
  • Improved civic participation and cooperation
  • Promotion of expertise in government
  • Automation of public services
  • Stimulating the economy through Public Private Partnerships
  • Improving the environment and public spaces

The tradition of political continuity became a key aspect of the governance vision of the APC for a 21stcentury Lagos. Under this strategy of continuity, Lagos has witnessed the following major achievements:

  • Recognized as the pioneer of governance frameworks and best practices with the creation of several specialized agencies:
LAWMA, LASTMA, LASRRA, LASSA, LAMATA, LASEMA, State Security Trust Fund, Rapid Response Squad, First State Emergency Helpline and Mobile Care Units
  • Increased annual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N7.2 billion in 1999 to about N333 billion in 2017
  • Developed key transformational infrastructure to support new towns development including IPP Projects in the CBD, Akute, Alausa, Light up Lagos, Africa’s first BRT system, Lekki Free Trade Zone and Eko Atlantic
  • Increased sense of security of lives and property and provision of emergency services
  • Lagos is now globally recognised as an opportunity-rich and economically buoyant state, which is the 5th largest economy in Africa

Citizen participation and inclusion in governance “Love the people the way they want to be loved, not the way you want to love them”

In providing leadership for Lagosians, I take as a cardinal rule that the true power of the voter lies in continuous engagement with the government beyond the ballot box. As Governor, We will ensure an inclusive and consultative governance approach in my service to you. In line with this:

We will

  • Create an official, two-way mechanism for interaction with ALL Lagosians in their respective groupings, enabled by appointed citizen engagement managers in the governor’s office
  • Seek to understand the needs of Lagosians before we seek to be understood by Lagosians and involve Lagosians in policy formulation ensuring they have a chance to be heard and informed
  • Respond directly to Lagosians on policy issues, taking on personal responsibility for guaranteeing their expressed concerns are addressed
  • Create a vibrant Team Lagos –engaging the 22 million Lagos people in diverse ways
  • Institute initiatives, incentives and systems to reward lawful behavior –and swift consequences for deliberate flouting of the law
